If you have ever lain awake over a debt, a rival, a verdict, a door that will not open — this book was written for you, seven centuries ago, about one sentence.
And its great secret is not hidden in the squares and hours below. It stands openly on the first page: the verse needs no observation, no ascendant, no appointed time — «it is an unsheathed sword». Sufficiency is not a technique; it is a turning of the heart called tawakkul. Every square, every count, every hour on this page is commentary on that turning. Begin where the book begins.
A verified digital edition of al-Sirr al-Jalīl fī khawāṣṣ Ḥasbunallāhu wa-niʿma al-wakīl — “the Well-Guarded Jewels and the Hidden Pearls” — attributed to the Quṭb al-Ghawth Abū al-Ḥasan al-Shādhilī (Cairo printing, 1349 AH). Ibrāhīm said it as he was thrown into the fire. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions said it, wounded, marching out to meet an army — ﴾those to whom the people said: they have gathered against you, so fear them﴿ — and it only increased them in faith (Āl ʿImrān 173). Both times the fire cooled and the enemy scattered. This treatise is a seven-hundred-year meditation on why.

Chapter 5's stated secret: the number divides into three equal parts, and each part is itself a word. ʿAlīm — to know. Sulṭān — to stand with authority. Sayf — to cut through. «Behind this number is an amazing secret suggesting a sultan and a sword.»
Here is what most readers rush past: before a single square is drawn, the book's first page says the verse works with no timing, no instrument, no condition — an unsheathed sword. The arithmetic is commentary. The secret is tawakkul — the turned heart. Kept with presence, Bāb 3 says, it

Every count in Bāb 2 is the abjad of a sword-epithet built on سيف = 150. Studied here as philology; the operations themselves remain in the sealed chamber below.
Enter your local sunrise and sunset once — they persist on your device. The verse itself needs none of this — «you do not need any astronomical observations, ascendants or particular times… it is an unsheathed sword» — the hours refine the squares, never the sufficiency.
A strand the wider tradition of ʿilm al-ḥurūf shares with this treatise, carried also in Shams al-Maʿārif and kindred works: each letter carries one of the four elements and a paired nature — the same four courses the Forge above lets you turn a square through. Kept here for study, not for show.
Roughly a third of the original is sword-work: the seven ways against oppressors, destruction, division, tongue-tying, and coercive taskhīr of named persons. This edition studies that material's arithmetic and withholds its operations — following the book's own fences: «اعلم أن الله سبحانه وتعالى غيور على خلقه» — Allah is jealous over His creation; «فإن من قتل بدعوته كان كمن قتل بسيفه» — whoever kills by his invocation is as one who kills by his sword; «وأن تعفوا أقرب للتقوى» — and that you pardon is nearer to taqwā. The Shādhilī path's greatest karāma is istiqāma. The sword stays in the scabbard; the sufficiency is the whole point.
Forty days is the tradition's unit of transformation — the khalwa, the arbaʿīniyya. The counts here ascend gently toward the book's own prescription — the verse 450 by day and night — and the final ten days seal each recitation with the sixfold fanqalabū and the single riḍwān, exactly as Bāb 1 closes the foundation. Nothing on this path is operative sword-work; it is the licit daily program of the treatise, nothing more and nothing less. If you miss a day, the day simply stays open — return and continue.
Count with presence — «let your concern be intimate discourse with your Lord, for He knows the secret and what is yet more hidden; and do not let your aim in the duʿā be the winning of the request, for then you would be veiled from your Lord.» (Arabic p.5)
